Steinberger, OpenAI, and OpenClaw
Peter Steinberger announced 2 days ago that he's joining OpenAI to "build an agent that even my mum can use." As part of the move, OpenClaw is transitioning to a foundation. OpenAI has committed to sponsoring the project, and Steinberger says it will "stay a place for thinkers, hackers and people that want a way to own their data." Congratulations to him on an amazing project and cutting-edge research. OpenClaw has been immensely stimulating for the AI community.
I believe Steinberger will do right by OpenClaw. I'm curious about how open-source foundation governance holds up when the sponsor's mission evolves, and I'm planning to explore that over the next couple of weeks. Not because I'm worried, but because I think the intersection of open-source values and corporate AI is one of the most interesting things happening in tech right now.
